According to reports from Sky Sports this morning, Manchester United have launched a £28.6million bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
The 2010 World Cup winner’s future at the Bernabeu is shrouded in serious doubt following allegations from Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo earlier this month; who claims he was recently offered Ramos as an ‘electoral asset’ for the club’s ballot on July 18th – as reported by Goal.com.
It’s believed to have been a ploy to secure the Spain international a better contract in Madrid but has now lead to a series of bids from Manchester United and interest from their local rivals Manchester City.
Real Madrid have slapped the 29 year-old with a frankly outrageous £63million price-tag, but according to reports from Sky Sports United are hoping to sign him for less than half that sum.
Sky Sports believe the Bernabeu outfit could accept their £28.6million offer – and also claim Ramos has now informed the club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave this summer. It coincides with reports claiming Real are targeting two defenders – Juventus man Leonardo Bonucci and Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny – as potential replacements.
Whether that news will force Manchester City to make a likewise offer remains to be seen.
