According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Barcelona defender Martin Montoya is on the verge of joining Inter Milan.
The former Spain U21 exploded onto the La Liga scene with a sensational goal against Malaga in 2013. But he’s totaled just 67 appearances for the Catalans in the space of five seasons and the recent signing of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla appears to have all but ended his Nou Camp career.
Back in December, the 24 year-old’s agent claimed he was ‘100%’ committed to leaving Barcelona this summer, leading Arsenal and Liverpool to be mooted as potential suitors in April.
But according to The Express – citing Italian outlet Calciomercarto.com – the right-back is now set to join Inter Milan, who have already wrapped up a £25million deal for fellow Arsenal target Geoffrey Kondogbia this month.
Montoya’s agent has revealed that negotiations to secure a San Siro switch are already underway, with his client excited to join the Serie A giants.
“We’re talking to Inter about Montoya,” he told Calciomercarto in a recent interview. “Let’s hope there could be a good conclusion to these negotiations. We’re working on it.
“Montoya feels that Inter are a great club and this would represent a great opportunity,” he added.
