Geoffrey Kondogbia

According to reports from The Daily Star yesterday afternoon, in-demand Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has played down rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League this summer.

The 22 year-old has been in fantastic form since joining the French big-spenders from Sevilla in summer 2013 for a £25million fee, this season averaging 3.1 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per-match from his 21 Ligue 1 appearances.

That’s reportedly caught the attention of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool according to The Express, and Kondogbia’s agent – Jonathan Maarek – has confirmed there’s plenty of interest in his client’s services.

“We have been approached by big clubs, they are big names,” said Maarek. “We will have the clarity to make the right choice. The idea is not to sit on the bench of a great club.”

The France international, on the other hand, who has claimed three caps since his debut in 2013, appears considerably more reluctant to leave Stade Louis II this summer.

As quoted by The Daily Star, the 6 foot 2 defensive midfielder recently told French TV programme Telefoot; “The future? The Monaco project is the one that is best suited to me, and the one that is the best for me.”

“It is difficult to leave when you feel good at a club, but in football you never know,” he added.

Whether that obliges Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea to consider alternative targets remains to be seen. As This Is Futbol revealed this morning, they’ve also been linked with Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.
