According to reports from The Express this morning, Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has cast doubt over Pedro’s rumoured summer move to the Premier League by describing the Spain international as a ‘key player’.

The winger-forward has claimed six La Liga titles and two Champions League titles with Barca since his debut in 2008, producing a tally of 98 goals in 313 appearances, alongside winning the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship with Spain.

But he’s slumped down the pecking order this season due to the £75million arrival of Luis Suarez, going on to make just eight starts in La Liga since the former Liverpool’s star’s debut in November, and is resultantly expected to move on this summer.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both considered to be amongst the front-runners for the 27 year-old’s signature – as This Is Futbol revealed last month – but Enrique’s latest comments suggest the Catalan club aren’t preparing to sell.

Speaking after a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday, the Nou Camp boss told reporters; “He’s, important, a key player for us. He’s done what he needs to at all points during the season. He’s a great example for his teammates. He’s perfect in training, and whenever he’s needed, he’s there. It’s a pleasure having him.”

The news will be of disappointment to the Premier League duo. But until Pedro extends his contract beyond 2016, they’ll still expect Barcelona to sell in the coming window.
