Khedira

According to reports from Goal.com earlier this week, Bundesliga side Schalke have confirmed their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.

The 28 year-old is considered to be one of the top midfielders in world football, affirming such status last summer by lifting the Champions League and the 2014 World Cup in just a matter of months.

He’s into his fifth season at Real Madrid but it looks set to be his last; due to continuous injuries and the European champions’ relentless spending over the past few transfer windows – acquiring particularly the likes of Asier Illarramendi, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Lucas Silva – the German international has made just 24 La Liga appearances in the last 18 months.

With his contract set to expire this summer, the 6 foot 2 defensive midfielder is almost certain to move on. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all keen on a summer deal according to The Express, but Schalke have sneaked a head start on the Premier League trio by making their interest public.

“I would prefer us to conduct our business in private,” said  the Miners’ General Manager Horst Heldt. “But it is true that we want Khedira for the coming season. However, we are not the only club who wants him.”

Khedira comes with a proven track record in the German top flight, claiming the Bundesliga title with Stuttgart in 2006.
