Right Back - Nathaniel Clyne

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne has entered talks to extend his contract at St.Mary’s.

The 23 year-old has been in fantastic form this season, averaging the fifth-most tackles per match of any Premier League player, as part of a Saints defence boasting the second-healthiest goals conceded column in the division.

That’s seen him emerge as Roy Hodgson’s preferred choice of No.2 within the England fold, whilst generating interest from Chelsea and Manchester United. With just a year remaining on Clyne’s current contract, they’re hoping to sign former Crystal Palace youngster on the cheap this summer.

In fact, Mirror Football’s David McDonnell claimed last month that a deal with Manchester United had already been agreed – as This Is Futbol revealed in April.

But clearly nothing was set in stone. After insisting last week that he’s happy to stay on at St Mary’s – as reported by This Is Futbol – Mirror Football now claim Clyne has re-entered negotiations with the club.

Whether a new contract can be agreed with two of European football’s biggest clubs lurking in the background remains to be seen.
