Nathaniel Clyne

As This Is Futbol informed you this morning, Manchester United are are hoping a swap deal involving Javier Hernandez can give them the upper in the race to sign Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne this summer –  with Premier League leaders Chelsea amongst the competitors for his signature.

The 24 year-old right-back has been in fantastic form this season, bagging two goals in 29 appearances as a near-ever-present member of a Saints defence boasting the best goals conceded record in the Premier League, 22 in 32 games, which has seen him emerge as Roy Hodgon’s first choice of No.2 within the England fold.

But fresh reports from The Metro this morning claim the deal is already complete. They source Mirror Football journalist David McDonnell, who told MUTV – Manchester United’s official TV channel – yesterday evening that Southampton and the Red Devils have already come to an agreement that will see Clyne join the Red Devils this summer.

McDonnell is famed for his Old Trafford exclusives so it’s unlikely he’s been misinformed. Whether the agreed transfer includes Hernandez or not, however, is yet to be confirmed.
