Right Back - Nathaniel Clyne

According to reports from Manchester Evening News this afternoon, Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne has revealed he’s “happy to stay” at St. Mary’s, despite being yet to renew his contract past 2016.

The 23 year-old has been in fantastic form to net two goals in 32 league outings appearances this season whilst averaging the third-most tackles per-match, 3.4, of any Premier league player.

He’s also been a near ever-present member of a Saints defence boasting the second-healthiest goals conceded column in the division, after recently-anointed champions Chelsea.

That’s seen the right-back emerge as Roy Hodgson’s first choice of No.2 within the England fold, whilst attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United – as This Is Futbol revealed earlier this week.

Both sides are keen to bolster their home-grown quotas this summer, and believe Clyne’s contract situation could force Ronald Koeman’s side to sell at a reduced fee.

But the Saints full-back has finally broken the silence on the notion of a potential move this summer, telling reporters he’d happily stay on at St. Mary’s.

“I am enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it is an up-and-coming club. I am happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well.

“My agent is negotiating, so I will just leave it with my agent and I am just going to concentrate on playing my football,” he added.
