According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Manchester United are set to offer Eredivisie sensation Memphis Depay a stunning £135k per-week contract to stop him joining Liverpool.

Since his impressive displays at last summer’s World Cup, earning him a nomination for the tournament’s Best Young Player award, the 21 year-old has gone on to claim 20 goals and three assists in just 27 league outings for PSV – leading to widespread interest in his services throughout Europe.

As This Is Futbol reported yesterday, some sources even claim the Netherlands international has already agreed to link up with former Oranje boss Louis van Gaal  at Old Trafford next season in a £25million deal.

But perhaps fearing long-term interest from Liverpool could scupper the move, United are now planning a contract offer worth £7m per-season, according to The Star.

It’s unlikely the Reds would be able to match that sum. Captain-in-waiting Jordan Henderson, who boasts a proven track record in the Premier League, is about to sign a new contract worth just £100k per-week, as This Is Futbol revealed yesterday. When Steven Gerrard departs for the MLS this summer, that will make him the club’s top earner.

Liverpool may now be forced to pursue alternative targets instead such as Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie, who they were linked with over the weekend – as reported by This Is Futbol.
