According to reports from The Metro this morning, Manchester United have won the race to sign Eredivisie sensation Memphis Depay via a £25million bid.
Since his impressive displays at last summer’s World Cup, earning him a nomination for the tournament’s Best Young Player award, the 21 year-old has gone on to claim 20 goals and three assists in just 27 league outings for PSV – leading to widespread interest in his services throughout Europe.
As This Is Futbol revealed yesterday, Liverpool and the Red Devils have both been chasing after the prolific winger – often compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo – for some time.
Reports yesterday claimed United had moved ahead of their rivals by making formal contact with PSV, but it appears the situation has progressed even further overnight, with The Metro claiming Depay’s anticipated move to Old Trafford is essentially a done deal. They quote Dutch Magazine Voetbal International.
Whether or not the rumours are true, Depay will certainly be on the move this summer after lifting this season’s Eredivisie title with PSV – as manager Phillip Cocu confirmed earlier this month.
next season transfer progress is impressive.
