Liverpool double-deal

According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday evening, Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has agreed to extend his Anfield contract up to summer 2020.

The England international has entered the final 14 months of his current deal, triggering interest in his services from Chelsea and Manchester City, as This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, with both clubs keen to improve their home-grown quotas.

But the dynamic midfielder has now agreed a four-year contract extension at Anfield worth £100k per-week. That will make him the club’s top earner when skipper Steven Gerrard departs for the MLS this summer.

And when Henderson does finally sign on the dotted line, many will expect him to succeed Gerrard in the role of captaincy, having excelled as acting skipper in Gerrard’s absences this season to claim six goals and eight assists in 30 Premier League appearances.

Henderson’s signature will follow Philippe Coutinho’s, who extended his Reds stay at the start of February – as reported by Mirror Football. Now, Liverpool are hoping they can get £50m-rated Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and just-about-everybody-target Raheem Sterling to sign a new deal before the summer.
