Radamel Falcao

According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday afternoon, Manchester United could still sign struggling loan star Radamel Falcao on a permanent deal this summer.

The 28 year-old has amassed a potent haul of 224 goals in 357 appearances throughout his spells with River Plate, Porto, Atletico Madrid, Monaco and the Colombian national team, but is yet to have the same effect at Old Trafford, netting just four times in 23 outings.

It’s believed the Red Devils would have to folk out around £43million to sign the South American hit-man permanently this summer, as reported by The Metro in October, so few expect the Premier League side to activate the deal after such a tepid campaign.

According to The Mail, however, United executive Ed Woodward informed Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev on Sunday that the Carrington club will wait until the end of the season before making a final decision.

“I saw the Manchester United people last Sunday and they have not yet decided if they would exercise the option. It’s not his best season, but they kept the opportunity to make a decision at the end of the season,” said Vasilyev.

The news will be of some disappointment to Liverpool fans. As This Is Futbol revealed on Monday, the Reds have been in negotiations with Falcao’s super-agent Jorge Mendes – whose other clients include Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho.
