Nottingham Forest have reportedly made an enquiry over a potential transfer deal for Morocco defender Romain Saiss.

The 32-year-old joined Besiktas during the previous summer transfer window as a free agent after making 206 appearances for Wolves, scoring 15 goals and delivering three assists in the process.

Despite only moving away from the Premier League fairly recently, the centre-back has been linked with a move back to England.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, have made an enquiry to Besiktas in regards to working out a potential transfer move for the centre-back and bring him back to the Premier League.

The report also adds, however, that the Turkish side are reluctant to let Saiss leave this month.

His debut season with Besiktas has seen the Moroccan show his defensive strengths, particularly in terms of clearing the ball away from his goal by having the highest average of clearances per game (4.2) at the club.

The recent World Cup in Qatar also saw the former Wolves figure show what he’s capable of as he helped Morocco get to the semi-finals of the tournament and also rack up the highest average of clearances per game (5) in the squad.

Would you take Romain Saiss at Forest?

His efforts saw him get included in The Independent’s team of the tournament and had this to say about the defender.

They said: “The leader at the back and the most committed of all Morocco’s bodies-on-line brigade. The semi-final was a step too far for his battered self but he was immense throughout their run.”

Having also seen his performances for Wolves in the past lauded as “magnificent” by journalist Nathan Judah, it’s clear that the veteran still has what it takes to play at the top level.

Taking into account how Bournemouth (501) are the only club in the Premier League that have faced more crosses than Forest (411) this season, it’s safe to say that someone with Saiss’ defensive attributes would be a solid addition to Steve Cooper’s side if they can convince Besiktas to let him go.
