Tottenham Hotspur’s right wing0-back Djed Spence caught the eye in their friendly clash against Motherwell on Friday afternoon.

This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who was reporting on the game for football.london as Spurs shook off the cobwebs amid the winter break.

Antonio Conte’s men cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Scottish outfit at Hotspur Way which saw a number of familiar faces line out for the Lilywites.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma started the game which saw Spence make a rare appearance under Conte as he took the spot at right wing-back.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

And it was apparent he put on a show as Gold highlighted his display in his half time player ratings as he handed the 22-year-old with an 8/10 rating and said:

“Showed some lovely footwork in getting high up down the right-hand side and put in a couple of dangerous early crosses. Linked up well with Kulusevski on a few occasions and the Swede sent him clear midway through the half only for the goalkeeper to deny him.

“He teed up Kulusevski for a chance before the half-hour mark and sent a header across the box that White couldn’t quite reach. An eye-catching first half from the 22-year-old.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We have to agree with Gold. Spence absolutely put in a shift for Conte in what was felt like one of his first opportunities to show the Italian what he could do.

And with appearances in a Spurs shirt few and far between for the Englishman, he proved a constant threat to the Motherwell backline throughout the first half.

Spurs now have one more friendly clash before they return to Premier League action against Brentford on Boxing Day which could spell another chance for Spence to impress Conte.

However, with Matt Doherty netting two on Friday against Motherwell, it will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old can break into the XI for that trip to play Thomas Frank’s side.
