Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he wants to ‘play more’ for the club.

There have been some question marks around the 31-year-old’s future with Leeds, Football Insider reported that a number of Championship clubs were interested in signing Forshaw.

The Englishman has only featured three times in the league for Jesse Marsch’s side this season. Forshaw joined the club back in 2018, signing from Middlesbrough, meaning he’s been with Leeds for over four years.

Forshaw spoke about his tough-tackling approach to midfield, something that Marsch loves. However, he believes that he needs people to tell him when not to train after suffering a knock.

He stated, “I am that type of player [who goes into 50/50s], I do get into collisions at times but I wish it was less often to be honest.

“It is part of my game but it’s something – I was speaking to Jesse about it yesterday – I’ve got to curb a little bit, especially in training, not in games. Like yesterday I just didn’t train, to save myself for tonight. I kinda need people to tell me that because I would have trained. Jesse thinks it is a plus to my character but ultimately I want to play more games.”

TIF’s view on Forshaw’s comments…

We believe that Forshaw is clearly a battling and no-nonsense midfielder when reading his comments. However, it appears that his nearly half-decade stint with Leeds could be coming to an end.

In his last three seasons, the 31-year-old has only made more than 10 league appearances once in the past three years with Leeds.

Forshaw could definitely do a job in the Championship for a number of clubs. He’s got plenty of experience in the Football League, not just with the Whites, but with Middlesbrough and Brentford.

One attribute that the midfielder could bring to any team is the ability to throw himself into a challenge effectively. Forshaw is in the top 12% for tackles made by any midfielder in the past year from Europe’s top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League (FBref).

A spell in the Championship could be how Forshaw sees off his career. When you consider he’s 31-years-old and loves to throw himself into the mix, he could be approaching the backend of his career.
