Speaking exclusively with This Is Futbol, journalist, Pete O’Rourke has claimed Wolverhampton Wanderers still have Jorge Mendes on their books and could help them ‘broker a lot of deals for big players.’

Mendes is a football agent and the founder of the agency Gestifute. He’s a friend of the owners of Wolves, club managing director, Laurie Dalrymple has described him as a ‘known associate’ in the past.

Gestifute represents a number of some of the biggest names in current world football. These include, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias.

O’Rourke said that the links between the agent and the club are still there, which could help them bring in new players in January.

He stated, “Obviously they still got the Jorge Mendes link there, obviously can help a broker a lot of deals for big players as well. So I’m sure that will also come in useful for Wolves in this next transfer window.”

TIF’s view on O’Rourke’s comments…

We believe that having Mendes is a real trick up the sleeve as far as Wolves’ transfer strategy goes. They’ve used it many times in the past.

A number of players at Wolves are represented by Mendes’ agency. They include the likes of Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, Pedro Neto and Jose Sa.

One key area that the club need to address in January, is a striker. Getting goals has been a real issue for them this season.

Wolves have only found the back of the net eight times in the league this season, a lower tally than any other Premier League side.

The club appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new manager in November. He’s managed some top clubs in the past, including Real Madrid, Porto and Sevilla.

With Mendes’ connections and Lopetegui’s attractive CV both at Wolves’ disposal, it could be a big factor that helps them land some top players in the January transfer window.
