Tottenham Hotspur have the closest thing to Harry Kane in 17-year-old academy gem Will Lankshear, according to club insider John Wenham.

Lankshear arrived at Spurs in the summer from Sheffield United after captaining their U18 side as they won the Professional Development League unbeaten last season, signing for £2m amid competition from Brentford.

The teenager has started fantastically in Spurs’ youth ranks, scoring four in four in the U18 Premier League, including a hat-trick against West Ham United, while he’s already played three times for the U23s in the Premier League 2 as well as come off the bench in the EFL Trophy against Stevenage.

His start has brought huge praise from Spurs expert Wenham, who told Football Insider how impressed he’s been.

He said: “I’ve been really impressed with how he just finishes his chances.

“There are no mistakes, he doesn’t have any caveats so his game so far, but he is only 17 and I think he is a complete finisher at the moment.

“But, if in time we can see him improve his passing levels, then maybe we can look at him as a Harry Kane-lite or something like that.

“At the moment though, he looks like a complete out-and-out finisher and he had made a phenomenal start to his life at Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Wenham’s comments…

Lankshear’s start to life with the Lilywhites and finishing ability isn’t the only thing he shares with Kane, with the 17-year-old previously released from Arsenal at youth level before joining Sheffield United.

With Kane taking part in the World Cup alongside fellow Tottenham forwards Richarlison and Son Heung-min, as well as with Dane Scarlett out on loan and Troy Parrott injured, the boyhood Spurs fan may see an opportunity to impress Antonio Conte as Spurs prepare to play behind-closed-doors friendlies before returning to Premier League action.

For some reason this website claims that John Wenham is an insider of Tottenham Hotspur FC. He isn’t. He is a know nothing chancer who makes comments about the club like any other blogger. He knows nothing that is not already in the public domain. He comments about youth players who he has never seen play. It doesn’t help that this website calls him an insider when they have been told to stop. For those reading just ignore anything Wenham says and read it for yourself on official Tottenham sites
