Celtic will have earned a whopping £6m from their winter break trip to Australia in which they played two friendly games, according to reports (via Daily Record).
And journalist Anthony Haggerty has been left buzzing on The Celtic Way YouTube channel following the Bhoys’ trip down under where they have faced Everton and Sydney FC.
The Bhoys parted for this winter’s World Cup break with a nine-point gap to their city rivals as they begin to pull away at the top of the table.
Ange Postecoglou’s side tasted defeat in both games out in Australia after losing 2-1 to Sydney and then in a penalty shootout after drawing 0-0 against Everton.
But as attention will now return to the Scottish Premiership, Haggerty has been left buzzing to hear of how much the Bhoys may have earned from their trip across the globe:
(14:00) “And also let’s not forget, there’s the financial element to this. There’s reports saying the club could earn something up to £6m and that’s colossal money for Celtic because they earn what, £2m-£3m for winning the title?
“It’s double or triple what you get for winning to Scottish Premiership title. Celtic can’t turn down these lucrative opportunities to make money on these commercial trips. And as I say, from that point of view, commercially, it’s been a success”
TIF Thoughts on Haggerty’s comments…
This would be a huge bonus for the Hoops to see a figure in the region of £6m come through the doors ahead of the January transfer window.
Do Celtic need a busy January window?
Yes
No
When you consider they spent in the region of £6m on Cameron Carter-Vickers, it is certainly not a sum of money which should be sniffed at.
And considering the Bhoys are already flying high at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, having further funds put into the side at this stage of the season can only be a huge boost.
