Presenter Dan Cook has rubbished the idea that Wilfried Zaha would move to Aston Villa despite some recent transfer talk.

According to some talk in the media (via Birmingham Live) the winger could be on the move in the near future and the Villans may well be frontrunners to land him.

Zaha is currently at Crystal Palace but will see his contract expire next summer (2023) and so if the Eagles want to make any money, they will have to sell him this winter – though he is also free to negotiate with foreign clubs once he enters the final sixth months.

And while a number of Premier League clubs may well be keen on landing the forward, Cook has claimed that the 30-year-old would only be keen to move to a team who have a ‘realistic shot’ at making European football as opposed to Aston Villa.

While speaking on the HLTCO podcast, the host said (08:23): “With the greatest of respect to them – as someone that is seen as a sympathetic voice towards Villa – I just can’t see that Wilfried Zaha would entertain a move to Villa Park if he was going to leave Crystal Palace.

“Obviously they have potential, they have a huge amount of money behind them, and a real desire to push up the table. But if he was going to go anywhere in England, I think it would be for a club that can have a realistic shot of European football next season.”

TIF thoughts on Wilfried Zaha and Aston Villa…

In 13 Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace so far this season, the winger has six goals and two assists and so it’s not hard to see why teams may be keen on landing him this winter.

However, seeing as Villa are one point and once place behind the Eagles in the division, despite having played one more game, a move for Zaha to Unai Emery’s men would necessarily represent a big step up.

Even so, money talks and the Villans have spent big in recent years – landing the likes of Diego Carlos and Philippe Coutinho in the past summer – and so the project may tempt the 30-year-old.

It will certainly be interesting to see what calibre of team targets Zaha in the coming transfer windows.
