Journalist Matthew Fulton has slammed Celtic winger James Forrest after his shocking substitute appearance during the club’s most recent win.

In their latest Scottish Premiership fixture, the Bhoys had to battle hard to claim all three points at home in a thrilling 4-2 win over Dundee United.

The away side looked to have stolen a point at the death when Dylan Levitt levelled the scores in the 87th minute, only for substitutes Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada to score in injury time to win the game for Celtic.

While those men made big impacts off the bench, Forrest struggled to leave a positive impression on the game as a substitute. Indeed, in the player ratings for the Scottish Daily Express, Fulton gave the forward a 2/10 for his efforts.

He also wrote: “Was sleeping at the quick free-kick and nearly cost his team but went close with a header.”

TIF Thoughts on James Forrest and Celtic…

Forrest wasn’t trusted enough to start the game, but came off the bench to help see out the win in a 14-minute cameo. Seeing as Dundee United nearly stole a point, it’s safe to say he didn’t quite have the desired impact – and his on-field shortcomings are clearly noted by Fulton.

Worryingly for the winger, he didn’t perform well in the recent league win against Livingston either, as he ‘left a little to be desired’ with a display that saw him subbed off after just 67 minutes.

Having failed to impress then, he was left on the bench for this weekend’s match, but it certainly doesn’t seem as if he did much to convince Ange Postecoglou to return him to the starting XI any time soon.

All in all, despite the thrill of the drama, this was perhaps not a day to remember so fondly for Forrest.
