Journalist Darren Lewis has hailed Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto for his role in the side’s winner on Saturday night.
The talented teenager was finally given his first Premier League minutes by Jesse Marsch at Anfield.
His introduction worked a treat, too, as the forward was influential in Crysencio Summerville’s dramatic winner against Liverpool.
The Inter academy product was also given a 7/10 match rating by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth for his 18-minute cameo.
He also caught the eye of Lewis, who was quick to recognise his performance.
Speaking on the TalkSport GameDay podcast, he said: “I’ll give absolute credit to Leeds. They were terrific. They were enterprising, they were fearless, they showed no respect to Liverpool and that finish from Summerville was terrific.
“Gnonto, who came on, the 18-year-old – the work he did to provide the opportunity for him was terrific and hasn’t really been made enough of.”
TIF Thoughts on Gnonto and Leeds…
Will Leeds avoid relegation?
Yes!
No!
The Italian starlet certainly impressed on debut as he completed 100% of his dribbles and crosses as well as winning all three of his ground duels (SofaScore).
Leeds fans will have been crying out for the sparkplug to be given an opportunity in the side having averaged a goal or assist every 102.2 minutes last season.
Since his deadline day move, he had been kept with the U21s and Saturday was only the fourth time the former FC Zurich man was included in the matchday squad.
However, you would now expect him to become a regular feature in the side having quickly gained plaudits.
