Wolves’ ongoing search for a manager amid their poor start to the season has been criticised ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash by Express & Star reporter Nathan Judah.

The journalist was speaking on the E&S Wolves Podcast as the Old Gold suffered a setback in their search for Bruno Lage’s successor.

Following the sacking of Lage at the start of October, Wolves have been on the lookout for a manager, however, Julen Lopetegui turned the club down this week due to personal reasons.

The club have now had to return to the drawing board following the former Sevilla manager’s rejection and are now set to see interim managers Steve Davis and James Collins take charge of the team for a second consecutive game this weekend.

And Judah revealed he has been left “flabbergasted” by the lack of clarity and cohesion at this current moment in time at the club.

He said: “You’ve got no backroom staff, not too many analysts, you’ve got no assistant manager, you’ve got no manager, you’ve got two guys who are doing their very best.

“These are massive games that you could look back on at the end of the season to be pivotal of Wolverhampton Wanderers being in the Premier League.

“I’m flabbergasted to a certain extent.

“And I understand that they’ve been unlucky in certain situations this season, but at the same time, we keep on saying it, we’ve said it podcast after podcast after podcast. You can’t just keep on saying you’ve been unlucky – there’s something going on that’s not quite right at this moment in time. And I think the time’s come where people have got to take criticism.

“Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the squad, with the players, with the investment in the summer… this should not be happening. And someone’s got to put their hand up and say, ‘yeah, it’s my fault’.”

Test your knowledge on Wolves' managerial candidates! First up: in what year did Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui almost take the Wolves hotseat?

TIF Thoughts on Judah’s comments…

We completely agree with Judah and think that now is the time for some people to be taking responsibility other than the previous manager for Wolves’ extremely concerning start to the season, with the West Midlands club currently in the Premier League relegation zone, having won one game and scored three goals in nine fixtures.

There doesn’t seem to be any frontrunners for the current vacant head coach position at Molineux, with Pedro Martins having been ruled out by the Express & Star reporter Liam Keen, which would suggest that the club perhaps hadn’t lined up any backup options going into their pursuit of Lopetegui.

It has been revealed that former player and youth manager Rob Edwardsrecently sacked by Watford – has been interviewed by the club, so developments remain to be seen in that pursuit.

However, it doesn’t seem as if a managerial appointment is imminent, and with a critical fixture against Nottingham Forest on Saturday before a trip to Crystal Palace in midweek, this is a problem that could spiral out of control soon.

If we compare xG at the average for match, a coaches not powerfully differ:

    Rob Edwards – 0,80 (Watford)
Nuno Espirito Santo – 0,85-0,90 (Wolves)
    Bruno Lage – 0,75-0,80 (Wolves)

To rise in table, need a jump in xG.
For instance, index of xG Newcastle United under the guidance of Benitez, at the average for match was 1,20-1,30. But considering not strong composition of Newcastle United, team could not rise above 10th place in EPL.
For wolves, appointment of Benitez means (if will create at the average for match 1,20-1,30) that wolves will score on 1 or 2 goals more than now (can be more), but at the average so.
But if composition of team will get the reinforcement, then wolves under management of
Benitez can reach mark in 2,40 xG for match (as was in Real Madrid under the guidance of Benitez).
