Rangers’ performance in their heavy 7-1 defeat in the Champions League has been labelled as “embarrassing” by TalkSport pundit Jason Cundy.

Cundy was giving his thoughts following a result which confirmed Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side’s exit from the Champions League.

Rangers had initially taken a 1-0 lead through a Scott Arfield strike in the first half, but a quick response from Liverpool and a second-half collapse from the Ibrox side capped an embarrassing evening for last season’s Europa League finalists.

Van Bronckhorst’s side are now left battling it out for a spot in the Europa League which can be achieved by finishing third in their group, with the side facing two must-win games against Napoli and Ajax in the coming weeks.

And Cundy was stunned at how poorly Rangers performed after going 1-0 up on Wednesday evening.

He said: “We spoke about Celtic last night, how disappointing and embarrassing it was. Tonight, those same words have got to be used.

“Embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing.

“This is a Liverpool side that are going into this game mid-table, they’re 10th. They’re having a bit of a tough time right now, they’re having a wobble.

“That is unacceptable, against a side at the moment that is just struggling to get a little bit of rhythm, and they walk up to Rangers and they pull their pants down – that is embarrassing.”

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

TIF Thoughts on Cundy’s comments…

Condy’s co-host, Jamie O’Hara, agreed with his comments as he labelled the Gers’ display a ‘disgrace’.

In this instance, we also have to agree with Cundy, and we’re sure even Rangers fans would admit that their collapse in the final 25 minutes of the game really hasn’t reflected well on the side.

Van Bronckhorst has now suffered four defeats out of four in the Champions League as Rangers boss, conceding 16 goals in that time, and we think that fans of the Ibrox club will be extremely disappointed that they haven’t given a better account of themselves in the competition this season – albeit in a tough group.

Therefore, we are inclined to agree with the TalkSport pundits and think that Van Bronckhorst and the Rangers squad will be a little deflated by the manner in which they collapsed as the tide turned against them on Wednesday evening.
