Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that rumoured Wolves managerial target Ruben Amorim won’t be leaving his current club.

After a poor start to the Premier League season, which sees the club sitting in the relegation zone after eight games, Bruno Lage was sacked from his position at the weekend.

As a result, Wolves are now doing their best to find an adequate replacement. One name to emerge as a possible target is Amorim, who currently manages Sporting in the Portuguese top flight.

However, according to Sheth, ‘all the noises’ he has heard surrounding the situation suggest that the 37-year-old will be staying put instead of pushing for a move to England.

Indeed, he told GiveMeSport: “Sporting started their Champions League campaign with two wins out of two, including that victory against Tottenham.

“Sporting can stop a manager going, of course, but if the manager says ‘I’m going to quit’, then they might be in a position.

“But all the noises coming out of Portugal is that Amorim wouldn’t be quitting Sporting for Wolves.”

TIF Thoughts on Ruben Amorim and Wolves…

It’s not hard to see why Wolves might want Amorim as he seems to be a rather exciting managerial prospect. Despite his young age, he has already won three Portuguese League Cups, as well as winning the Primeira Liga last season with Sporting (via Transfermarkt).

As a result, he has been labelled as the next Jose Mourinho – although he preferred to compare himself to Bobby Robson while talking in a recent interview (via TalkSport).

Amorim certainly looks to have the makings of a fine manager. Worryingly for Wolves, though, he currently manages a team in the Champions League, while they are looking as though they could end up in a relegation battle.

With that in mind, it’s hard to imagine that those ‘noises’ Sheth has heard are wrong.
