Presenter Conor McGilligan has claimed that Kjetil Knutsen would be a good choice as a future Leeds United manager with Jesse Marsch currently under a lot of pressure.

The Whites are currently winless in their last eight outings and consequently plenty of talk about sacking their American head coach has begun to pop up in the press.

After their recent defeat – a 2-0 loss at Leicester City, the away fans even sang songs about their former boss Marcelo Bielsa, as well as boos ringing out after today’s defeat. But it seems as though Marsch will keep his job for a little while longer just yet.

Of course, as all managers do, he will depart the club eventually and whether or not that happens soon, McGilligan has touted Bodo/Glimt coach Knutsen as an exciting option for Leeds in the future.

Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said told a fan who hadn’t heard of the manager: “This ‘Norwegian nobody’ is an extremely good coach. He’s beaten Roma. He’s beaten European sides. And he’s very, very good and is highly respected in the European game.

“You’ve already had [Aston] Villa looking at him. You had Norwich last season looking at him. You’ve had a fair few teams, Everton we’re looking at him, apparently inquired about him.

“He’s a top manager, called Knutsen. Very good. Listen, it was just a suggestion today. I’m not saying we replace Jesse Marsch. I’m not saying that whatsoever. I’m saying [for the] future.”

TIF thoughts on Kjetil Knutsen and Leeds…

With Marsch still in a job at Leeds, Knutsen’s name is yet to officially be linked with the club but that could change soon if the American was to be relieved of his duties.

Will Jesse Marsch still be at Leeds after the World Cup?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Norwegian famously dismantled Jose Mourinho’s Roma side 6-1 in the Europa Conference League group stages last season, while his Bodo/Glimt side managed to move up a tier in European football this term and have played Arsenal in the Europa League recently (via the Mirror).

With that experience under his belt, as well as leading his club to back-to-back league titles in Norway, Knutsen certainly does seem to be a pretty talented manager.

Should Marsch lose his job any time soon, it would certainly be interesting to see if the Premier League club take a chance on the 54-year-old.
