Journalist Dan Rolinson has claimed that Aston Villa fans will be disappointed if Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t end up as their new manager.

Earlier this week, former boss Steven Gerrard was relieved of his duties with the club following a poor run of form in the Premier League, and so the search for a replacement has already begun.

Immediately, one of the names linked with the job was Pochettino – who is out of a job having been sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer – and this may well have had some fans excited.

While speaking on the Claret & Blue – An Aston Villa Podcast, Rolinson certainly seemed to think that the ex-Tottenham Hotspur man would be wanted at the club, but wanted that they may well be ‘disappointed’.

Indeed, he said: “The kind of mood amongst the fan base and the people watching this is, it’s kind of, not Pochettino or nothing, but because that’s the name, that’s the one that’s been linked, if it isn’t him – again obviously results on the pitch and performances will soon quash any kind of worries anyone’s got, if it’s somebody that didn’t quite want at the start – but it’s almost like if it isn’t Pochettino now I feel like people are going to be disappointed.

TIF thoughts on Mauricio Pochettino and Aston Villa…

While Pochettino may have been an exciting prospect – after all, he did lead Spurs to a Champions League final in 2019 – it looks as though any supporters who want him at Aston Villa may well be let down.

According to a recent report in The Athletic, the Argentine has no intention of replacing Gerrard at Villa. The article explains that he wants to wait for a little longer for an opportunity in the hope of joining a club at a higher level.

With that in mind, it looks as though the number one choice for a lot of fans will not be joining. Only time will tell who the club do appoint, but they may have to win over some supporters amid this potential disappointment.
