The VAR officials and referee may have made a big mistake in the most recent Celtic game by unfairly ruling out a goal scored by Anthony Ralston.

In what turned out to be a rather action-packed Scottish Premiership tie this weekend, the Bhoys travelled to Hearts of Midlothian and managed to pick up all three points in a 4-3 win.

James Forrest fired Celtic into the lead, and the game could have turned out very different had Ralston’s header not been disallowed for a supposed foul by Giorgos Giakoumakis.

In this footage shared on social media, it’s clear that there isn’t much wrongdoing by the Hoops’ forward before the ball ends up being headed in by Ralston.

TIF thoughts on the foul and Celtic…

This wasn’t the only incident that caused controversy in the game as there was a handball appeal turned down.

Incidentally, this was the first ever Celtic league game to have VAR in use, and the officials were still happy to let the goal stand. This may have been because the referee blew his whistle for a foul before the goal hit the back of the net.

If this is the case, it’s certainly an error from the official who should have waited for the incident to play out before then blowing for the foul, thus allowing VAR to intervene if necessary.

Former player Chris Sutton certainly seemed baffled by the incident, he took to Twitter to question it all, writing: “I’d like to know why the Ralston header was ruled out… if VAR was working properly?”
