Fabrizio Romano has claimed out of work boss tipped to replace Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa, Mauricio Pochettino, is in no rush to land a new job.

Pressure had recently been outing on the Villa manager with recent results failing to be rectified and Football Insider even claimed earlier this week that the board had decided to sack Gerrard, which has now come to fruition.

Villa have won just two games all season, are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League and find themselves outside of the bottom three on goal difference, which has led to some parts of the media questioning whether or not Pochettino would be a realistic and good replacement for Gerrard.

Romano has claimed on the House of Champions podcast that it will be very difficult to get Pochettino to Villa Park.

(19:00) “Let’s see if Aston Villa will be able to convince Pochettino but what I’m told is that Pochettino prefers to wait, at least until the World Cup, he wants to see what happens with the World Cup, we know that after the World Cup we’ll have a lot of managerial changes at important national teams.

Who would you rather have as manager?

Gerrard!

Gerrard!

Pochettino!

Pochettino!

“So this is why at the moment Pochettino’s priority is to wait, he was approached by Nice one month ago and he decided to wait, let’s see if Aston Villa will be able to change his mind.

“I think it’s not going to be easy because Pochettino is really focused on waiting and waiting for a new opportunity, maybe after the World Cup but you never know in football, maybe Aston Villa will be pushing and change his mind.”

Of course, it would be a very difficult sell as his past two jobs have been with Champions League level clubs in Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, however, there have been some huge wage rumours swirling which could perhaps help in persuading him.

Whereas Villa are, in all honesty, a relegation-threatened club this season because after a heavy defeat this evening, they now find themselves on the same goal difference as bitter rivals Wolves who occupy 18th position.
