ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United did not try to sign John Egan despite recent reports linking the club with a move.
Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way Patreon podcast, the insider explained: “He [Nixon] reported that John Egan – who’s a Sheffield United defender, I think he’s their captain, he’s aged 29 – that we tried to sign him in the summer and that we’re going to try and sign him in January.
“But I’ve been told today that there was no offer in the summer, not one went in for him. You know, we might have shown a distant interest in him, but we always had other priorities ahead of him like Aguerd, like Kehrer. And when you think about it, he’s not really in the same league as them.”
He then added: “Whether we’ll go in for him in January, I don’t know. I would suggest not, because the club seemed to dismiss the fact that there was any interest in him previously. And he’s 29, so his age isn’t on his side, either.”
TIF Thoughts on John Egan and West Ham…
With that in mind, it’s not as though the Irons are in need of more depth. However, there has been talk that Dawson could be leaving the club and Egan is an experienced defender who could, in theory, do a similar role if West Ham need a replacement.
Even so, by the sounds of it, this deal doesn’t seem that likely at this moment in time.
