Rangers: Dean Jones urges more time for under pressure manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst

|

Journalist Dean Jones has urged Rangers to ‘take a step back’ and give under-pressure manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst time to ‘fix things’ after a dismal pair of results.

Things haven’t been going particularly well for the Ibrox club of late. Indeed, in their two most recent games – arguably the biggest games of their season – they have tasted humiliating defeats.

First, they lost the Old Firm derby 4-0 to bitter rivals Celtic, and then they followed that up with another 4-0 defeat, this time to Ajax, in their first Champions League match of the season.

As a result, according to the Scottish Herald, Van Bronckhorst could soon be fired if he can’t change the club’s form soon. Writer Graeme McGarry explained how the manager ‘has already lost two battles on the pitch, and the war of words off it’ and so ‘his job might well be next.’

While speaking about the whole situation, Jones called for calm from the decision-makers at Rangers, telling GIVEMESPORT: “It is a worrying time for Rangers, there’s no doubt about that.

“But I think they need to take a step back and just hope that Van Bronckhorst can fix things himself in the next couple of games.”

TIF Thoughts on Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers…

After their loss against Ajax, the club’s manager cut a notably defeated figure and didn’t win any fans over with his post-match quotes as he said his side couldn’t compete with other teams in the Champions League due to financial reasons.

That certainly wouldn’t have gone down too well with the powers that be at Rangers, either, who would have been left frustrated enough by the recent defeats alone.

However, it should not be forgotten that Van Bronckhorst helped bring the Scottish Cup to Ibrox for the first time in over a decade last season and led his side on a superb run to the Europa League final.

With that in mind, he probably has done enough to earn himself a little more time to steady the ship at this early stage of the season.
