West Ham United have been looking at players’ characters and personalities before signing them this summer.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news regarding the Irons’ transfer business this summer.

David Moyes’ side have made five permanent signings at the London Stadium this summer, with Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Flynn Downes and Alphonse Areola all arriving at the club on a permanent basis.

There were reports from Spanish outlet ABC (via Sport Witness) in May that the club may make a move for Barcelona and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay this summer, however, a deal has yet to materialise – and Jones used Depay as an example when talking about West Ham’s recruitment process this summer.

He said: “I know that that [players’ characters and personalities] has been really important to them in their recruitment for the season.

“Not only what style of player they’re signing, but what’s the personality like, too.

“Look, Moyes will know about Memphis Depay, so he’ll know whether that’s going to shake the dressing room in a negative way or whether actually, he could boost the performances of a few players around him.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that West Ham fans will be happy to hear about the club’s recruitment policy regarding the players representing their club.

The club have had an incredibly successful past two seasons, and that could be down to the fact that aside from simply finding top talents, Moyes has also built a side full of strong and positive characters in the dressing room, with leaders such as Declan Rice driving the club to a Europa League semi-final last season.

Therefore, we believe that West Ham’s policy regarding transfers should be advocated, and will likely be here to stay as long as Moyes is in charge at the London Stadium.
