Tottenham Hotspur are now looking for “the final pieces of the jigsaw” amid links to Ajax and Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about Spurs’ potential transfer plans as we near the summer deadline.

According to reports, Antonio Conte’s side have been observing the situation of Kudus at Ajax for the last six months, with the club believing that they could secure a deal for the 22-year-old.

However, the report does say that the club could be prepared to wait until next summer to sign the 16-cap Ghana international if they cannot get a deal over the line before the transfer window’s closure on 1st September.

And Jones believes that the club’s potential acquisition of Kudus could be one of the final pieces of the puzzle for Conte’s side, as they prepare to fight on four fronts this season.

He said: “I think he’s a different type of midfielder and I think that, again, Tottenham are just looking now for the final pieces of the jigsaw and the players that might give them an edge.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they did sign a midfielder, obviously James Maddison’s one that has been linked.

“Kudus has the ability to make things happen from midfield.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments..

We believe that Spurs fans will be delighted to see that the club are still scouring the market for talent this summer despite having done plenty of business already, and the addition of Kudus could be the type of smart signing that would help Conte balance domestic and European commitments this season.

The £9m-rated midfielder made just 25 appearances for Ajax last season, scoring six goals and providing one assist in that time, according to Transfermarkt – although five of his goals came in the Dutch second tier for Ajax’s reserve side.

Kudus may have not been a regular in Ajax’s first team last season, but we believe that his experience of playing for such a huge club would give him the platform to develop into a solid squad player for Conte at Spurs if Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy could negotiate the right price for the midfielder.

Although I have no doubt that he is a good player, I still prefer Maddison because he has PL experience under his belt. OK the price is way far apart from each other but if we get Maddison and buy this Ajax player for this amount of money and maybe lend him back to Ajax for a year I think that this will be a very good deal and investing for the future.
