West Ham United are considering an approach for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.

That’s according to insider ExWHUemployee, who has provided an update to The West Ham Way Patreon page on the club’s current transfer plans.

The Hammers seem intent on adding another midfielder to their ranks despite the arrival of Flynn Downes earlier this summer.

They have looked at the possibility of signing Piotr Zielinski from Napoli as well as Amadou Onana of Lille, while Spanish outlet Marca recently revealed that Arthur is aware of the interest he has from the Irons and Arsenal, but his preference is a switch back to La Liga with Valencia.

The Brazilian maestro was bought by Juventus from Barcelona for £66m just two years ago, but could now be the subject of an offer from West Ham.

Ex wrote: “Juventus midfielder and Brazilian international Arthur Melo is also someone we could consider making a move for, although once more, there is a lot of competition for him.”

The 25-year-old would certainly add experience for the level of competition the Hammers are trying to reach.

He has played 26 times in the Champions League, reaching the semi-finals of the competition with Barcelona in 2019.

The 22-cap Brazil ace is among the best passers in Europe in his position, boasting a success rate of 91.1% that leaves him in the 96th percentile among all midfielders on the continent over the past year.

Initially, he was seemingly unfavoured by manager Massimiliano Allegri, but he was promised more game time by his coach for the second half of the last campaign, and while that was kept, it will be interesting to see if anything is to come of this.
