ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United have made Maxwel Cornet their priority signing on the left amid links to RB Leipzig wing-back Angelino.

The Hammers have already made significant moves in the transfer window, acquiring the likes of Nayef Aguerd and Gianluca Scamacca, while being linked with stars like Filip Kostic and Amadou Onana.

However, one link that has emerged closer to home is Cornet from Burnley, who according to Ex, is David Moyes’ priority target for their left-hand side as they look to add competition for Aaron Cresswell, despite links to Angelino, who is also a target for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ex told The Transfer Show: “Brighton are lining up Leipzig’s Spanish full-back Angelino as a replacement for Cucurella, and he’s also someone that West Ham have been linked with, although it looks like Maxwel Cornet is the left-sided priority at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Cornet to West Ham…

The Ivorian winger would be a huge pick-up for the east London club as he has Premier League experience already and would arguably not be relied on as much as he was at Burnley – and could therefore get more time and space to work his magic.

Cornet impressed for the Clarets last season in both going forward and defending as he picked up nine goals and two assists in all competitions while ranking in the 81st percentile for tackles, 75th for interceptions and in the 70th for clearances compared to other forwards in Europe’s top five leagues – showing his work on and off the ball.

While he played predominantly at centre-forward last season, he also featured in five other positions including left and right-midfield, second striker and at left-back, showing a level of versatility which would help West Ham in their pursuit of a top-six finish and Europa Conference League glory.

It has been reported Cornet has a £17.5m release clause in his contract, and if the Irons can pick up a player of his talent, versatility and potential for under £20m, we think it would be a huge coup.
