YouTuber Joe Wainman has claimed that Ivan Toney is better than Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford, amid links to the striker this summer.

According to reports, Leeds are one of multiple Premier League outfits interested in signing Toney this summer.

Toney was in fine form last year in Brentford’s first season in the Premier League, as he found the back of the net 12 times and also chipped in with five assists, and he has carried on the good form this season, scoring once and recording two assists in the first two games.

With Leeds being linked to Toney this summer, Wainman spoke on the JustJoe Football Show and suggested he would ‘instantly improve’ the Whites, claiming he is better than Bamford.

He said: “Every day of the week [would have him at Leeds].

“I don’t understand how you can not be a fan of Ivan Toney. Most touches in the opposition box against Manchester United, most distance covered, most aerial duels won, most chances created, assisted two goals for the first time in his Prem [career].

“I don’t know how you can not say Ivan Toney is a great player, and he would instantly improve us. He’s better than Bamford.”

Do Leeds need to replace Bamford?

TIF Thoughts on Wainman’s comments…

Leeds have a slight issue on the attacking front after Bamford was forced off due to injury against Southampton at the weekend, while Joe Gelhardt is also injured, so Jesse Marsch may be expected to be on the hunt for a new striker.

However, if the American boss was to go in for Toney, Brentford would surely only accept a fee that would be out of Leeds’ price range because of the important role that he plays for them and what it would take for them to replace him.

With the issue occurring right now at Leeds, Marsch might want to act fast when looking to bring in a forward, so Toney might not be the best option for him as Brentford might shrug off any offers that come in for him unless they are offered a fee that they can’t reject, so it could take a lot of negotiating to get a deal over the line.
