Leeds United: Fabrizio Romano issues exciting Wilfried Gnonto claim

|

Leeds United are keeping an eye on FC Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto this summer as Jesse Marsch’s men look to add to their attacking options.

This has been suggested by reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has been discussing Victor Orta’s plans on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.

The Yorkshire club remain unbeaten this season after drawing 2-2 at Southampton, but it was an afternoon which will have left those at Elland Road frustrated as Patrick Bamford suffered yet another injury.

Reports have linked Leeds with bringing in a new striker this summer, and while Marsch is yet to land a new goalscorer, he may now be forced to speed up the process after Saturday’s setback.

Romano believes this could come in the form of the Italian youngster, who the reporter believes is firmly on Orta’s radar ahead of the final weeks of the window.

He said: “One name I wanted to mention is Wilfried Gnonto. This Italian guy playing for Zurich who did very good in the last games.

“18 years old, former Inter academy player who is available on the market because many clubs have been interested this summer. And Leeds are keeping an eye on him, so he could be the final surprise for Victor Orta and Radrizzani at the end of the market.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Gnonto has shown signs of promise, with 15 goal involvements in his 36 appearances across all competitions last season (via Transfermarkt).

Do Leeds need to replace Bamford?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, there will likely be question marks over his readiness to play in the Premier League given his age and current experience in men’s football.

At the age of just 18, surely Marsch would have more faith in the likes of Joe Gelhardt to fill in for Bamford given he already has some Premier League experience under his belt – although Gelhardt has been battling fitness issues of his own.

After last season, Bamford’s fitness was always going to come under scrutiny, but to last just over one game will raise serious questions over his long-term future in the side.
