Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Everton are ‘very keen’ on bringing Che Adams to the club before the transfer window shuts, after having an offer laughed off.

Everton are one of the Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Adams this summer, and Frank Lampard is interested in getting him through the door at Goodison Park on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, according to The Athletic.

However, the Toffees are not the only Premier League side interested in the Southampton striker, as Leeds United are also keen on him as both clubs look to address their lack of depth up top.

Despite Everton wanting to get Adams in the door on an initial loan deal, Crook spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that Southampton laughed off this proposal.

He said: “I think it’s difficult because Everton are very keen. But again, they’re battling against Financial Fair Play restrictions.

“I think Southampton just laughed off their proposal to take him on loan with an obligation to buy.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Everton are in a difficult situation on the attacking front, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out for the foreseeable with an injury, meaning that Anthony Gordon has to lead the line out of position in the opening two fixtures of the Premier League season.

Getting Adams through the door would be big for Everton because he would provide much-needed backup for Calvert-Lewin, who does not have the best injury record, so it is uncertain how frequently he will be fit, so Lampard might really push to look to get this deal done.

However, Crook raises an important point with FFP constraints, and if Southampton aren’t willing to cut a deal with a loan or an instalments-based payment for Adams, Everton might have to look elsewhere.

And having already missed out on previous targets such as Morgan Gibbs-White last night, missing out on Adams could be the latest blow for the Toffees.
