Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on The Done Deal Show that Everton could enter talks over Anthony Gordon if they receive a £50m bid.

It may have caught a few people off guard on Sunday when the news broke of Everton receiving a bid in the region of £40m for academy graduate Gordon, however, the Toffees have since knocked back that proposal.

Bidders Chelsea, however, appear keen on landing the winger, with a new bid set to be lodged which would creep up to £50m, and according to Jacobs, that is the point Everton could enter into discussions over Gordon, stating that Everton are holding firm on their valuation.

He said: “They’ve [Chelsea] already gone back in twice at £40m and £45m, and Everton’s asking price – as they told Spurs and Newcastle – is £50m to – this is what sources told me – ‘have a conversation’, but that doesn’t mean that Everton will sell.

Should Everton sell Gordon?

No!

“From Everton’s perspective, because Dominic Calvert-Lewin is injured, Richarlison has gone to Spurs, Gordon is suddenly relatively integral and they see him as a key, key part, especially in light of having a replacement.

“It’s all very well pulling in what could be £50m, but what are the instalments? How much of that do you get in upfront first-payment cash that you can spend?”

Jacobs has also claimed (39:30) that following Chelsea’s lucrative offers and the clear interest in Gordon, the winger’s ‘head has been turned’, which may well force Everton into a sale, because the last thing they need is a player that is thinking of moving away and not putting his all into this campaign.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

The Everton owners may well be reluctant to sell Gordon because he’s one of their own having come through their academy, but to be able to turn a £50m profit on someone that only became a regular starter in the Premier League last season would be superb business by the club, and Frank Lampard could overhaul a lot of his current squad with that kind of money.
