Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that it would be a massive risk if Everton were to sell Anthony Gordon this summer.

Gordon has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Chelsea keen on luring him to Stamford Bridge, but they have recently had a £45m bid rejected.

According to The Telegraph, Gordon wishes to leave his boyhood club this summer and is waiting for the Blues to come back with an improved bid – which he is expecting Everton to accept – so they can get a deal across the line before the end of the transfer window.

With Gordon being linked with a move away from Goodison, Phillips spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that it would be a massive risk for them to let him go due to him being a fans’ favourite at Everton.

He said: “It’s a massive risk and I believe that Everton fans will be furious about that because they’ve sold their talisman in Richarlison and now it looks like they’re going to sell a fans’ favourite in Gordon.”

TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ comments…

Everton saw their top scorer from last season, Richarlison, leave the club this summer, and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin being sidelined due to injury, Gordon has had to lead the line for the Toffees in an unfamiliar position up top in the opening games of the season.

With just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, it would be a disaster if Everton were to let Gordon leave, as they will have such little time to find a replacement, but if Chelsea offer a fee upwards of £50m, it might be difficult for them to turn down.

If Gordon was to leave, it could turn the atmosphere sour at Goodison Park, and the fans could start to turn on the manager or the club, so Frank Lampard might be hoping that he can keep the 21-year-old by any means necessary.
