Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Aston Villa have another player in the pipeline after their deal for Ismaila Sarr collapsed.
According to TalkSport, Aston Villa were leading the race to sign Sarr this summer, but there is now an understanding that Steven Gerrard has opted to walk away from the deal, with no chance of an agreement being reached.
Villa have not had an ideal start to the Premier League season, picking up just three points from a possible nine, with their losses coming against newly promoted Bournemouth on the opening day and Crystal Palace last weekend.
Despite Villa appearing set to sign Sarr earlier in the window, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that Gerrard has a backup plan in place.
He said: “It sounds like a bit of a mess, to be honest, but I’m told Gerrard has a backup plan he wants them to go for so let’s see what that is.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
With Villa having a disappointing start to the Premier League season, it must have been frustrating for supporters to hear that they pulled out of the Sarr deal, as he would have added another option to their attack.
Villa have made five signings this summer, with the only attacker they have added being Philippe Coutinho, who was already at the club on loan last season, so they have not really bolstered their attacking options at all this summer.
Meanwhile, there has been little by way of attacking players being linked with a move to Villa Park apart from Ryan Kent, who Gerrard worked with previously at Rangers, so it will be interesting to see if this is a deal that progresses or the Villans boss has another target in mind.
This ” journalist ” has done nothing but be totally negative about Aston Villa and this slightly positive slant must have really hurt to write. As with other “experts” he knows nothing and so resorts to making up rumours. Get a proper job and try reporting facts instead of the utter dross you are churning out at present.
