Journalist Charles Watts has claimed that Arsenal will be taking their preseason trip to Germany too seriously to bother with too much commercial commitments.
As things stand, the Gunners are in Europe for a ‘mini training camp’ at the Adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach as they step up their preparations for the fast-approaching Premier League season.
The week long trip will culminate with a pre-season fixture against the 2. Bundesliga side FC Nurnberg on Friday July 8, and Watts has claimed that ‘fitness’ will be the focus, not finance.
Indeed, while speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained that while at trip the US later on this month may afford more ‘commercial’ opportunities, this current camp will not.
The journalist said (3:24): “It is very much being used as a proper training camp. You know, the preseason tour to the US, that sort of thing, we’re going to see lots of commercial stuff done, and the players go in here there and everywhere – meeting people and sponsors and that sort of thing.
“I’m not sure it’s going to be quite as blatant as that during this trip to Germany. Arsenal are using it, like I said. very much as a training camp. There has only been one week of preseason, remember.
“You know, this is serious stuff. It’s about getting as much energy and fitness and everything into those players legs and getting some of the new boys acclimatised as well.”
TIF thoughts on Arsenal and preseason…
One of those ‘new boys’ who will hope to quickly get used to how Mikel Arteta runs things at Arsenal is recent signing Gabriel Jesus. Indeed, Watts has already spoken in the past about how crucial it could be for the Brazilian that he gets a whole preseason with the Gunners.
And while this camp in Germany looks to be a , it does sound as though fans can expect a bit more commercial content to come from the trip to the United States later on in July.
In that period, Arsenal will take part the FC Series – a national expansion of the Florida Cup – where they will face the likes of Orlando City and then Premier League outfit Chelsea.
