Journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘monitoring’ a possible new attacking midfielder signing this summer.

Not that long ago, Spurs were linked with a possible move for Christian Eriksen, with football.london revealing that internal discussions were held about re-signing their former player.

However, it seems as though that deal has passed them by, with the Dane looking set to join Manchester United ahead of the upcoming season instead.

In light of that, Tottenham seem to still be working in the background on signing another player of the same sort of profile, although that specific target remains unnamed.

Indeed, while talking on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Taylor said (26:39): “There’s a few targets in the background that are being monitored. I think the signing of a number ten.

“Which can provide the flexibility to switch from a 343 to a 352 or 3412, if you like, with that attacking midfielder. Someone of the Eriksen mould.”

TIF thoughts on Tottenham and their plans…

With outfield signings such as Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic all arriving so far this summer, Antonio Conte has certainly added plenty to his squad.

Still, none of those players are a natural creative ‘number ten’ that Taylor claims Spurs are looking for. And so, this would explain why there was an initial interest in Eriksen.

But, with Tottenham not taking up that opportunity, it will certainly be interesting to see who Fabio Paratici and co have lined up as a possible target instead.

No doubt we will find out in the coming weeks. But that player looks as though it would well be Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo who has recently been linked to the Premier League outfit in the Italian media.
