Pundit and former Rangers striker Kenny Miller has claimed that Allan McGregor should leave the club amid the latest rumours stating that he will be a No 2 at Ibrox next season.
There have been recent reports stating that Allan McGregor is set to stay at Rangers next season, but only to be as second-choice to Jon McLaughlin, who is currently the No 2 at the club and played just eight games in the Scottish Premiership last term.
McGregor has spent two spells at Rangers and he totalled 448 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish side, but with his contract set to expire, there is uncertainty surrounding his future.
With the rumours stating that McGregor could be nothing more than a backup ‘keeper next term, Miller claimed to the Daily Record (via Ibrox News) that he can’t see it happening.
He said: “When I read that Allan McGregor could stay at Rangers for another year as a backup keeper, I almost choked on my breakfast. Not because I thought he might be retiring. He could well sign a deal at Ibrox if that’s what he and the club agree on. I haven’t spoken to him about it so I don’t know.
“But Allan McGregor as a No 2? Maybe only playing in 20 or 30 per cent of the games next season? No, I just don’t see that happening.
“I know him well enough to know that it wouldn’t suit him. He might as well just go now because Greegsy would not want to be that guy.”

McGregor is set to be out of contract, and at 40-years-old, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has a big decision to make in terms of whether he is going to offer the Scottish goalkeeper a new deal at Ibrox.
Recent claims suggest that McGregor will be a second choice next season if he does put pen to paper on a new deal, and this could be a good option as he will be able to give guidance to the younger players being implemented into the first team due to his great experience at the club, so perhaps a reduced role may bring some long-term benefits despite Miller suggesting that playing backup won’t suit the Rangers veteran.
