Premier League injury expert Ben Dinnery has claimed that Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz will likely require surgery on his face.

Over the past weekend, the Villans had a fruitless trip to London, as they suffered a a 2-1 away defeat against West Ham United in the Premier League.

During the match, however, the Brazilian picked up a nasty knock to the head when Manuel Lanzini’s raised his foot too high in an attempt to win the ball.

Luiz was left with a bad cut to his lip that required stitches, but it now looks as though further measures will have to be taken to fully resolve the issue.

Indeed, when speaking on the Premier FPL Injuries YouTube show, Dinnery has explained that plastic surgery will probably be needed, leaving the Villa man a doubt for his club’s next game.

He spoke about a knock Calum Chambers had suffered, before revealing Luiz’s situation, saying (07:35): Steven Gerrard spoke about, it [Chambers injury] was a similar scenario to what Douglas Luiz had suffered on to the face.

“Bit of a cut in the mouth and maybe a laceration, certainly not to the extent of Douglas Luiz, by the way, who is likely to require surgery for a fairly deep cut.

“Now it has been stitched, but like Steven Gerrard said, it’s just been patched up to get him through. And the fact that he probably will need some plastic surgery gives you a little bit of insight into the extent of the boot that he took to the face.

“So that was a nasty one. You know, will he be available for game week 30? Time will tell. That will come down to the extent of the problem, and what actually needs to be done.”

TIF thoughts on Douglas Luiz and Aston Villa…

Steven Gerrard’s men will face a tricky home fixture at Villa Park next up as they host Arsenal. The Gunners are playing well at the moment, so the club’s manager will likely want his best players available.

With that in mind, the news that Luiz will require surgery, and is therefore a big doubt for the game, will come as a big blow to Villa fans.

Will Douglas Luiz be missed if he can't play against Arsenal?

Indeed, the 23-year-old has been a key cog in the team over the past few seasons, playing 24 times already this term, and making over 30 appearances in each of the two prior campaigns.

Taking it all into account, Gerrard and co will be hoping the issue can swiftly be resolved.
