Club insider ExWHUemployee has provided a positive injury update on West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna.

Earlier on in the season, back in November, the centre-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that looked likely to keep him out for the rest of the Hammers’ campaign.

However, when speaking about the player on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex was able to reveal that Ogbonna could actually be back sooner than first expected.

Indeed, he explained that the defender has even set out a target time to return as he steps up his rehabilitation, saying: (43:42): “In terms of Ogbonna, Ogbonna’s been training on grass now, which is basically the first step of your rehabilitation to playing.

“He is targeting, this season, to play again. Which is progress because it was previously feared it’d be ruled out for the whole season.

“He is targeting perhaps the end of April, early May, and maybe wants to get into the Europa League Final squad at the end of the season. So that’s his aim.”

TIF thoughts on Angelo Ogbonna and West Ham…

Considering the numerous injury fears West Ham have right now, fans will presumably be relieved to finally hear some good news at last. Indeed, this is a huge twist as he was originally predicted to be out for the whole season, so this will come as a pleasant surprise for David Moyes.

Before his injury, Ogbonna was undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet for David Moyes, playing in every Premier League game and only losing twice.

Does Angelo Ogbonna deserve a new West Ham contract?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Considering the player’s contract also runs out at the end of the season, it makes a lot of sense that he is trying to prove his fitness and availability before heading into a potentially uncertain summer.

If he can play any sort of role for West Ham in the final stages of the campaign, perhaps he will have done enough to earn himself a new deal.
