A number of Celtic fans have been left furious after seeing footage of a foul on new Japanese midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi.
Over the weekend, the Bhoys claimed a narrow 2-1 victory over Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup, securing a spot in the last 16 thanks to goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada.
Despite the win, there was one moment in the game that left supporters extremely upset. Indeed, during the second half, Ideguchi went into a challenge with Mouhamed Niang. The Alloa man did win the ball but he also came in with undue force, catching the Celtic player in a nasty manner.
Referee Don Robertson only ended up giving a yellow card, but after seeing replays emerge on Premier Sports – which asked if the foul was worthy of more punishment – it’s safe to say the Hoops faithful felt it should have been a red.
Here’s what these Celtic fans said…
Having only signed for Celtic this January, this was a ‘welcome’ to Scottish football the midfielder probably would have hoped to avoid.
Even so, despite suffering the poor foul, Ideguchi was fortunately ‘okay’, according to manager Ange Postecoglou after the game.
With his team now progressing into the next round of the competition, the 25-year-old may well have his eyes on a first trophy with his new club – with the Bhoys drawn against Raith Rovers for their last-16 match.
