Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has been speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel about the difficult position Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in during this transfer window.

Tottenham limped out of the Carabao Cup semi-finals at the hands of Chelsea, which may have been the biggest sign since Antonio Conte arrived that new additions are required this month to improve the squad and mount a serious top-four challenge.

Would Dybala improve Spurs?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, over two weeks have now passed and nobody has arrived to help the Italian’s side, and this could be down to the fact they may have to sell before they buy, especially if players such as the club’s record signing, Tanguy Ndombele, are going to be training by themselves and thus decreasing their market value while picking up a healthy wage.

Thomlinson had this to say on what the reality could be for Spurs this transfer window:

“It’s not an easy situation to make work financially, I think, for Tottenham, unless [Daniel] Levy and ENIC put their hand in their pocket and go ‘okay, here is £30m, £40m to improve this squad’. They’re going to have to sell players that are almost unsellable, like Matt Doherty and Ndombele. Who buys them?”

TIF Thoughts on Tottenham’s transfer situation…

While some Spurs fans may be confident of new additions arriving this month after Conte confirmed that he had held a transfer meeting with both Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici, the fact that the days are passing by with no concrete transfer activity happening will surely be worrying.

The most serious transfer appears to be the one involving Adama Traore, with Spurs reportedly confident of landing the winger, whereas Wolves manager Bruno Lage has claimed he wishes to keep the Spaniard at Molineux this season.

And if Tottenham can’t prise away someone with one goal involvement this campaign and who is out of contract next summer, it may prove how little money there either is to spend or willing to be sanctioned on transfers.

Over 20 years Levy has had control of signings the majority have been really poor. The one or two that have turned out to be good signings Levy eventually sold for a massive profit. This is the reason we have won next to nothing under his tenure. On a footballing side of things, Levy’s way obviously doesn’t work for the fans, the only people it works for is Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy in a financial way. They simply don’t care for winning trophies, all they care for is profit. 20 years of this is way too long, it’s time they sold up took their profit and passed on the club to someone with ambition to win. Lewis, Levy and ENIC OUT!!
