Beren Cross of Leeds Live has been discussing the club’s reported interest in Jonathan David during a recent Q&A session with a group of supporters.

The Canadian attacker currently plays his football for KAA Gent in the Belgian top-flight and has impressed of late, scoring 18 goals and providing his teammates with eight assists during the 2019/20 campaign (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Last summer, David finished ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Raul Jimenez and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic as the top goalscorer at the Gold Cup netting six times. As well as that, the promising young talent was named Canada’s player of the year for 2019 (via Leeds Live).

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

The 20-year-old moved to Europe in January 2018 from the Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club (via Transfermarkt.co.uk) and is now being linked with a move away from the Jupiler Pro League.

In light of the recent reports suggesting that the player has his heart set on a move to the French side Lille, here is how Cross responded to the question regarding the Canada international (per Leeds Live):

‘I’m told David was on a longer list of forwards the club was looking at, but he’s so far down the track with Lille, United are no longer pursuing him at this stage.’

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by the journalist’s comments, it appears the Whites have turned their attentions elsewhere having accepted the player looks destined for a move to Ligue 1. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, David’s current value is £20.25m and although the Yorkshire-based club may no longer be pursuing him, Gent president Ivan De Witte has previously claimed the Elland Road club’s interested in the player was genuine.
