Fans of Leeds United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which The Athletic journalist Phil Hay relays an article concerning his pick for Leeds’ Young Player of the Year.
In Hay’s article, The Athletic writer has picked 22-year-old Ben White – who is on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion – as United’s Young Player of the Year, describing the centre-back as: “What a modern central defender is supposed to be: graceful on the ball, happy in possession and less inclined to engage in the dark arts that [Norman] Hunter and others perfected in the 1960s.”
In reaction to his article, which Hay relayed on Twitter, fans of the club have flocked to share their opinions on the matter, with many suggesting that the £4.95 million-rated White is indeed one of the best they have seen at the club, while others have commented on their hopes to secure the 22-year-old’s services following the conclusion of this season.
Will Ben White stay at Leeds beyond the end of this season?
Yes
No
A piece on my pick for Leeds United’s young player of the year. Ben White – so good that the club have low expectations of keeping him next season, even if they do go up.
Brighton resistant to offers, top-six PL interest brewing. And no wonder:https://t.co/xf8W3Dzn1O

That’s the thing about having players on loan all we do is make them better players for other clubs to benefit from, specially when they are getting trained by the master Bielsa

He is class… But he’s still not dominant in the air

So good. Most naturally gifted centre half I’ve seen at ER since Woody and Ferdinand. And yes, I’m including Sean Gregan in that.

Be gutted if we don’t get at least first refusal

Not a chance he will stay at Brighton Phil after experiencing Leeds.

Best centre back I’ve seen at Leeds

Well you’ve just ruined my day Phil

He would be the best signing we could make

What do we think?
Since joining Leeds on loan last summer, White has significantly impressed at Elland Road, with the 22-year-old starting all 37 of United’s Championship fixtures, in which he has provided two assists and averaged a WhoScored match rating of 7.05.
As such, although it is a very high accolade indeed, it is not surprising to hear that many of the Leeds fans believe that White is one of the best defenders they have seen at the club, and likewise, it is also no wonder why many are hoping his Elland Road career will continue beyond the current campaign.
