Fans of Leeds United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which Graham Smyth relays an article on the comments made by Luton Town chief executive Gary Sweet over the possible resumption of the football season.
Speaking to The Price of Football Podcast (via Yorkshire Evening Post), Sweet claimed that he would like for the Championship season to resume, however, he would like assurances that a return to action will not put extra strain on the NHS or deprive the healthcare system of testing kits.
In reaction to his comments, which were reported by Smyth, who then relayed his article on Twitter, fans of Leeds have flocked to have their say on the matter, with many suggesting that they will not be held to ransom by Sweet and Luton Town.
Would you like to see Leeds play the remainder of the Championship season?
Yes
No
Luton Town chief exec says they don't want to play any more games unless they're given commitments over their concerns.
If they get those commitments, the show can and must go on, he said on @POF_POD https://t.co/eNnmiJvtEa#lufc

He’s fibbing. He’s just made the coaching team redundant and they’re bottom of the league. They’re skint and @LutonTown are embarrassing.

Wonder why he wants it cancelled..

Presumably a key assurance is that they won’t be relegated!

What do we think?
While many Leeds fans appear to think that Sweet’s comments are self-concerned, from an objective viewpoint, his remarks would appear sensible.
While the vast majority of fans would surely love to see the football season resume as quickly as possible, it is totally reasonable to make the health and wellbeing of the general population a priority above any sporting event.
However, it would appear that Leeds fans believe that this is not the true motive behind Sweet’s comments, and rather he would just prefer that the season were to be wiped so that Luton were not relegated.
